#136 – 5 Painful Ways Cold Email Can Backfire On Your Biz
2 Cold Email Takeaways
This episode is about cold email’s dark, sinister side.
It’s the often overlooked ways that sending cold email can cripple your sales figures. Here’s my 2 takeaways from the episode:
#1) Upsetting current customers
Here’s an easy way to piss off a customer: Send them a cold email with a special offer for new customers. 10 out 10 times, this email will annoy someone if they’re not privy to this generous pricing structure or offer.
Don’t do that.
To avoid this trap, simply upload a Do Not Contact list of your current customers and leads that are already in your pipeline. Then, your cold email software won’t be able to contact the wrong people.
#2) Getting your domain blacklisted
If you send enough un-targeted, salesy cold email, you will get your domain blacklisted. Which will drop your open rates like a hot rock… even if you’re emailing your customers or employees.
2 ways to avoid this:
1. Send high quality cold email in low volumes. (Add personalization and a nice value proposition so your prospects couldn’t possibly flag you as spam.)
2. Use a separate email domain. It’s safer, but harder to execute. Because you’ll have to warm up your new domain properly and strictly follow cold email sending best practices.
Go get ’em,
