To our pleasant surprise, Linkedin Sales Nav recently updated its industries filter.

Why is this big news?

Well, because it means that you can target even more accounts in certain industries.

(If you aren’t happy with the number of people converting in your pipeline, get in touch with us because we can help fix this.)

In 2021 Linkedin listed about 150 industry filters but now in 2022, you have a little over 400 different industries to choose from.

What’s the purpose of the industry filter?

This might seem like a given, but interestingly “your industry designation helps you to come up in more searches related to the keyword of that industry.”

And this is great for sales teams and recruiters because it can help you search for the right prospects in specific industries, thus defining your target audience.

You will notice that when you create your Linkedin profile, you are asked to select your industry.

As mentioned earlier Linkedin only had about 150 industries to choose from, but now there are over 400.

Why invest in Linkedin Sales Navigator

If you don’t have Linkedin Sales Navigator yet, it’s a really powerful tool to invest in.

If you are looking for advanced search filters, which could help you gain access to thousands of potential leads, then paying $80 for this service is a no-brainer.

At Salesbread we really find Sales Navigator extremely helpful in finding relevant leads, especially if we are looking to target specific people at companies.

It allows us to refine our lists, and contact prospects with ease, and more often than not we receive many replies.

In fact, we are able to book 1 meeting or appointment per day for our clients through this social media platform.

But…

We know how to use Linkedin Sales Navigator the right way, and this is why we get results.

Many other companies are canceling their subscriptions because prospects aren’t replying to their messages.

The problem isn’t Linkedin Sales Navigator itself, but it could be that you might be using the filters the wrong way

(If you would like to hop on a consultation call with us, please feel free to do so. We can help you figure out what you could do, to get more leads.)

What are the pros of using Sales Navigator?

  • You will have many search filters at your fingertips, including advanced ones.
  • You can save searches and integrate with any CRM
  • LinkedIn Sales Insights aggregates all of your Sales Navigator activity by account so you can get insights into sales activity at scale”
  • It’s a great tool for prospectors looking to find people who work at a specific company
  • The pricing isn’t too bad, depending on which package you choose.

What are the cons of using Sales Navigator?

  • It will only work well if you have a great sales team that uses personalization, build the right list of people, and message prospects in real-time, not just using automation (even if it’s just initially.)
  • Sometimes the filters are not as accurate as they should be, therefore it would be wise to use a third-party organization as well (especially if you are looking to target businesses.)
  • InMails can be expensive
  • Sometimes it pulls up the incorrect Linkedin profile.

How much does it cost?

Sales Navigator has various packages to choose from depending on your sales needs.

And depending on which package you choose, you can get various benefits.

How to use the industry filter

But just be mindful, historically, Sales Navigator has poor data when it comes to finding the correct accounts and even people that you want to target.

Sure, you can narrow it down by “technology” and company size, but the industry tag is incorrect more than 40% of the time.

But remember industry is user-selected.

For example, if you have developed a fitness app, you could list it under one of these industries:

  • Health, wellness, and fitness
  • Tech
  • Computer Software

See the problem?

Maybe you’re listing it under “tech” but a prospect is searching for it under “health and wellness.”

Therefore, if you’re using the industry filter you are going to miss out on a large part of your target audience.

In some cases, even more than 50% because the business might have put themselves in different categories.

But here’s a hack if you’re looking to target companies…

Create a list of accounts FIRST by researching the companies that you would like to target.

We actually go off of Sales Navigator to do this and use third-party resource tools.

There are many different web scraping tools that you can use for this kind of research that are extremely helpful.

We use the following programs below for this step:

Apollo.io

Apollo.io is a data mining tool that allows us to find the email addresses and phone numbers of contacts on Linkedin. You can find your ideal prospects with laser-focused details.

Crunchbase.com

Crunchbase allows us to find data on specific companies and track investors, prospects, and even complete market research.

Zoominfo

Zoominfo provides accurate data such as phone numbers, email addresses, and company info for B2B sales teams. This allows for precise targeting.

Once we have created the perfect list, we then feed each account into Linkedin Sales Navigator to start grabbing the correct people to go after.

This is BY FAR the best way to go about the industry filter, as it ensures the right target audience.

(On a side note: You need to pay for these programs, so if you have an inbound sales team, this can get expensive over time.

This is also why we advise using outbound lead generation services, like Salesbread, as we will cover all of these extra costs.)
